The intervention
To envisage the best conditions
In the large majority of the cases, the intervention is not painful, however the noise, the vibrations in the mouth, speculum generate a real concern for the inexperienced horse. Also to avoid any stress, here various conditions to respect so that all occurs for best and in calms:
* A clean box, quiet, functional and quite enlightened.
* An electrical connector 220 volt to the standards
* A cold tap
The horse is generally not very patient, as it is necessary as the intervention is shortest possible, without to neglect the care or to precipitate. A normal seance takes approximately 20 minutes.
* Ensure that all the horses to be looked after close tothe box of intervention
* The person who will hold the horses must be an experienced person who knows the temperament of her animals.
* In the case of very nervous horses and in order to avoid any accident, it will be necessary can be to envisage a care on several seances.
In the case of dangerous horses or of specific interventions it will be necessary then can be to envisage a tranquillization of the horse carried out by a veterinary surgeon.
It is necessary to work in good conditions of hygiene in order to avoid any infection.
the intervention
examination
Initially I examine the head and the jaw of the horse, then I lay out the speculum in order to directly examine the teeth of the horse “to the touch” and “the eye”. I determine the importance of the surdents, the lesions and sensitivities in the mouth and seeks the anomalies: tartar, supernumerary tooth, missing tooth, wolf's teeth, tooth of pig, decay, corrugated teeth….
The breath is a factor which can mean the presence of decays for example, as well as “reserves” of food between the teeth.
All équidés are concerned with the surdents, only they evolve/move differently according to the subjects. It thus acts thanks to a rotary file connected to an engine of dental prothesist (20.000 turns/minute) to remove the most important asperities and to make the table dental regular and not wounding.
I use it either for équidés having average and regular surdents, or to polish work after the rotary file.
disinfection
It is of primary importance to clean the mouth before the intervention and to disinfect it then. There is so to speak never embarrassment after the intervention of a dental expert, and the horse can turn over to work immediately. However if you note an anomaly in the days following the intervention do not hesitate to join to me.
